Mikiel co-founded Planning Works, Inc. in 1999, with the guiding philosophy: “Planning first, because planning works.” Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, Mikiel earned an athletic scholarship to The University of Texas at Austin, where he lettered in football in 1975 and graduated with a BBA in Accounting in 1976.
With over 40 years of experience across tax, finance, insurance, and commercial real estate, Mikiel brings a deep and well-rounded understanding of financial planning. His expertise allows him to design advanced planning strategies tailored to the needs of both individuals and businesses. Known for his clear and thoughtful communication, he is committed to helping clients achieve—and exceed—their financial goals with clarity and confidence.
Mikiel has served on the executive board of the American Academy of Certified Estate Planners, reflecting his dedication to professional excellence in estate and financial planning. He has also served as Trustee for Riverbend Church in Austin, Texas.
Outside of work, Mikiel and his wife Laura enjoy staying active with tennis, golf, hiking, and camping. He’s also an avid reader with a passion for history, science, and philosophy. Mikiel is a proud father of two adult children and two grandchildren.
